Kozue (or Cozue) Takagi is one of the youngest photographers to have received the Ihei Kimura Award for Photography in 2010. That same year, she also bagged the 15th Shinmai Select Award.
Born in 1985 at Nagano, Japan, 27-year-old Takagi just graduated in 2007 with a degree in photography from the Tokyo Polytechnic University. But a year prior to her graduation, Takagi had already received the prestigious Daido Moriyama Award for her work “New Cosmos of Photography.” She also finished second at the Epson Color Imaging for her photo collection “Self-counseling.”
After graduating, she showcased her first-ever exhibit entitled [laboratory1:] at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. The [laboratory] series was followed by four more, which she exhibited in 2008 at Sendai, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Osaka.
In 2009, she published two compilations, namely “Ground” and “MID” under Akaaka Art Publishing. That year, she also received the Fuchu Art Museum Award.
In 2011, she launched “Suzu” under the Shinano Manichi Shimbun Publishing Company. Photos from her latest book were exhibited at Taro Nasu, Tokyo and Cultural Hall, Nagano the same year, and at the Art Gallery Tokyo in 2012.
Takagi has also participated in group exhibits, most notably the 35th year anniversary exhibition featuring the works of Ihei Kimura awardees.
